UP Police Typing Test Rules (Official Guidelines)
The UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) conducts a Computer Typing Skill Test for candidates applying to clerical and technical posts. The typing test evaluates the candidate’s ability to type accurately and quickly on a computer system using Hindi and/or English languages as required by the post.
The typing test is conducted under strict technical guidelines defined by the recruitment board. Candidates must follow these official rules during the examination.
1. Computer Based Typing Test
- The typing test will be conducted only on computers.
- Candidates are not allowed to bring personal keyboards or devices.
- The test will be conducted using standard QWERTY keyboards.
- The typing software and system will be provided by the examination authority.
2. Languages for Typing Test
Depending on the post applied for, candidates may need to type in one or both languages.
- Hindi Typing
- English Typing
Candidates must be familiar with Unicode based typing systems used in government examinations.
3. Keyboard Layout Requirement
- Hindi typing will be conducted using the Unicode Inscript keyboard layout.
- English typing will use the standard QWERTY keyboard layout.
- Candidates should practice using these keyboard layouts before the exam.
4. Minimum Typing Speed Requirement

Candidates must achieve the required typing speed to qualify the skill test.
5. Typing Test Passage
During the typing test, candidates will be given passages that must be typed within a specified time.
- Hindi typing passage: approximately 400 words
- English typing passage: approximately 500 words
The text displayed on the screen must be typed exactly as shown.
6. Typing Accuracy Rules
Accuracy is an important component of the typing test evaluation.
- Minimum accuracy required: approximately 85%
- Typing errors reduce the final net typing speed.
- Incorrect characters, missing words, and extra characters are counted as errors.
- If accuracy falls below the required level, the candidate may be disqualified.
7. Error Evaluation Method
The typing test software calculates typing speed based on correct words typed. Errors are deducted while calculating the final typing performance.
- Each incorrect word reduces the final score.
- Repeated mistakes reduce net typing speed.
- The final result is calculated using net typing speed after error deduction.
8. Qualifying Nature of Typing Test
The typing test is generally qualifying in nature. Candidates must meet the minimum typing speed and accuracy requirements in order to pass the test.
Failure to meet the required typing speed will result in disqualification from the recruitment process.
9. Important Instructions for Candidates
- Practice typing on a computer before the exam.
- Learn Hindi Unicode typing using the Inscript keyboard.
- Focus on improving both speed and accuracy.
- Avoid unnecessary corrections that slow down typing speed.
- Practice typing long passages similar to the exam format.
